At Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday, the Detroit Pistons created unwelcome NBA history by falling to the Brooklyn Nets for a record-tying 27th straight game.
Over the course of the weekend, Monty Williams’s whipping boys had already tied the record for the longest consecutive season losing skid versus the Nets at Barclays Center—it was their 26th straight loss.
The greatest run of losses in a single season was previously tied by the Cleveland Cavaliers (2010–11) and Philadelphia 76ers (2013–14), but the Pistons are currently the only team in that unfavourable category.
Williams’ squad has now lost more games in a single NBA season than any other club, as the Detroit team defeated the Nets 112-118 despite dominating the first and third quarters.
With an incredible 41 points, Cade Cunningham spearheaded the Pistons’ offensive surge, but his 22-year-old efforts were futile, as he now stands as the first player to lose his first 10 games in which he scored at least 30 points.
In addition, the Pistons are just one loss away from matching the 76ers’ record of 28, which they set in both the 2014–15 and 2015–16 seasons. As a result, their record in Williams’s rookie campaign is now a horrifying 2-28.
“Again, when you look at records, you think of coaches, but I’m sure the players don’t want that attached to the name on the jersey,” Williams reportedly said after his team’s historic loss, according to ESPN.

The Pistons’ most recent victory came on October 28 against the Chicago Bulls. Up next for the Central Division cellar-dwellers is a trip to the Boston Celtics, who lead the Eastern Conference, on Thursday.
