NFL record 14 Black QBs to start in Week 1

Almost 50% of all NFL teams will have a Black beginning quarterback to start off the 2023 season.

Fourteen Black quarterbacks are projected to begin in Week 1 this year, breaking the record of 11 set last season. It’s the third time in four years that another excellent grade has been set in the class.

The Week 1 starters are: Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Damages, Lamar Jackson, Dak Prescott, Deshaun Watson, Russell Wilson, Geno Smith, Desmond Ridder, Joshua Dobbs, Justin Fields, Jordan Love, Bryce Youthful, C.J. Stroud and Anthony Richardson.

The record addresses the obvious change in sentiments about race and prejudice in the game. For most of the game’s set of experiences, Black competitors were either deterred from playing the position or compelled to change positions as they progressed to more significant levels of play.

This year, the Ravens have what is believed to be the solitary all-Black quarterback room in NFL history. Jackson, who turned into the association’s second consistent MVP in 2019, drives the gathering with reinforcements Tyler Huntley and Josh Johnson. Tee Martin is the QBs mentor and Kerry Dixon is the collaborator QBs coach.

Last February, Mahomes and Damages left a mark on the world when they turned into the initial two Black men who began at quarterback in a similar Super Bowl without precedent for NFL history.

The 2023 NFL Draft denoted whenever in association history first people of color were chosen as the main three quarterbacks taken in the draft. Youthful, Stroud and Richardson were totally named skippers of their separate groups heading into this season.
