The cowboys’ No extension is anticipated for Mike McCarthy, according to sources.

According to league sources who spoke to ESPN, Mike McCarthy will coach the Dallas Cowboys in 2024 under a contract that expires and is not likely to obtain any kind of extension.

There have been speculations about whether McCarthy’s contract might be changed in any manner, even if it was merely to add one more year, ever since Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said last week that McCarthy would return in 2024.

In short, the answer is no. According to Jones, someone who is nearing the end of a contract is pushed in a new manner and often has the opportunity to bring out the best in others. He is counting on McCarthy to do just that in 2024.

Jones demanded and expected the same of Jason Garrett, McCarthy’s predecessor, who twice continued to coach into his contract’s last year.

In 2014, Garrett coached for the first time in the last year of his contract. He finished 12-4 and was rewarded with a five-year extension. The second occasion occurred in 2019, when he ended 8-8 and decided not to rejoin the Cowboys, who chose to sign McCarthy in his stead.

Jones officially announced McCarthy’s 2024 comeback three days after a depressing wild-card defeat to the Green Bay Packers at AT&T Stadium. In a 260-word statement, Jones praised McCarthy’s regular-season winning percentage and his “demonstrated postseason success,” even if it came with the Packers.

Under McCarthy, the Cowboys are only 1-3 in the playoffs after going 67-42 during the regular season and winning two NFC East championships in the last three years.

McCarthy said that he is driven more by legacy than by money and that he was not concerned about the cancellation of the extension. However, the fact that McCarthy will be coaching in the last year of his contract will inevitably cause problems for the Cowboys and McCarthy.

McCarthy, who will be in the last year of his contract, may find it more difficult to fill positions on his coaching staff, according to several league sources. Others claim that McCarthy’s decision not to extend might cast a shadow over the club amid trying times.

If the 2024 season is not going well, some other sources wonder how the players will respond when McCarthy’s contract position becomes known later in the season.

With 28 seasons without a Super Bowl victory under their belt, McCarthy admitted on Wednesday that his team still has “work to do,” but he also asked supporters to “buy into us.”

McCarthy said, “I came here to win a championship.” “Aside from that, I didn’t come here looking for another contract. In order to win a global title, I travelled to Dallas.”
